Photos Of People Posing With Junk Food Styled To Look Like Renaissance Paintings

Based in Brooklyn, New York City, German photographer Rebecca Rütten created a series titled “Contemporary Pieces” that is inspired by both Late Renaissance paintings and fast food culture in the United States.

After studying books on the Renaissance, she decided to recreate the poses found in the paintings of Italian painter Caravaggio with her friends as the her models and modern fast food items as her props.

The resulting images have an undeniable humorous touch, but also reflect more serious social issues such as food, culture and mass consumption in the country.

View more images from the series, and learn more about the project, here—what do you think of these new “Renaissance” paintings in which junk food takes centre stage?
