Amsterdam-based artist Leanie van der Vyver sought to explore the question and challenge current beauty ideals, by inflicting an unexpected new beauty standard.
In her project ‘Scary Beautiful’, she reinvents the high-heel shoe, and completely reverses its design—to create a shoe with multiple new meanings.
In a video that accompanies her shoes, the wearer is shown struggling in the leather objects—and develops a new awkward way of walking, leaning forward to walk to compensate for the pain and lack of balance.
